WATERFALL ON PHILLIPS BRANCH (3)
Driving Directions: From the junction of N.C. 126 and N.C. 181 in Morganton, drive north on N.C. 181 for 10.6 miles to Brown Mountain Beach Road (S.R. 1328). Turn right and drive 5 miles to a bridge over Wilson Creek. Turn left beyond the bridge to stay on Brown Mountain Beach Road. The road starts out paved but soon changes to gravel. At 7.3 miles, pass the trailhead to Harper Creek Falls. Continue 0.7 mile to a bridge over Harper Creek. Park before the bridge on the right.
Hiking Directions: Walk across the bridge and turn right on the obvious dirt road. In a few feet, you’ll notice the obvious Phillips Branch Trail (#278) climbing the bank to the left. There is no path to the base of the falls. If you want a better view, scramble down the bank.
